The Gospel of John 5:17-30

The Weaver

Jesus says: My Father is at work until now, so I am at work. But what is God's work? What are God and Jesus working on so fervently? What do they mean?
The verb Jesus uses for God's work is ergàzomai, “to work, to elaborate, to practice, to cause, to compose, to weave.” The original meaning of ergàzomai refers to weaving, to the work of connecting, of spinning elements together to create unity, to shape objects. It is the final action in the work of connecting, of linking different parts. From the hebrew arag, “weave,” and ereg, “weaving,” which in turn come from the Akkadian rakasu, “to connect, to build, to prepare.”
This is the work of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete: weaving. An endless, patient, creative, incalculable, invisible, omnipresent weaving to bring everything togehter in unity, in the unity of love. In God's hands every event, every incident, tragedy, accident, joy, surprise, wait, dream, expectation, dreading, wish, pain, longing, will be weaved into unity, towards oneness in every case. Nothing will be lost, nothing that happens is by chance or without a reason. God's weaving never stops following us with love, in every moment, at each step and thought. Love's weaving does not take any vacations from mercy, it gives no rest to the imagination and  knows no hesitation in passion and compassion. Satan pushes us towards separation, forces us to judgement, makes us harm ourselves, incites us to fight one other constantly, while God's love ceaselessly weaves everything and always towards unity and union.
God's work, God's action cannot operate against man's freedom, nonetheless in every moment it works to weave ceaselessly all of life's experience towards building unity and harmony.
Every moment all of us can, in every choice, in every interior dialogue, choose the devil's work or God's work. Please Mary, our holiest Mother,  help us to make good choices and to inspire thoughts and deeds in collaboration with God's work.
