The Ascension of the Lord – Year A

Word of Today
The Gospel of Matthew 28:16-20

Smile

If all power in heaven and on earth has been given to you, our Lord and God, we can only continue to smile.
In the presence of those who believe and adore your name lovingly, just as in the presence of those who blurt out all kinds of blasphemy and unbelievable lies: if all power in heaven and on earth has been given to you, our Lord and God, we can only continue to smile.
In the presence of mud slinging and even if we are chased away or ridiculed, left alone, or betrayed by our friends: if all power in heaven and on earth has been given to you, we have every reason to continue to smile.
Where evil is organized, overbearing, powerful and even respected and honored as good and beautiful, where lies reign supreme and the truth is considered hateful poison, even when the mind sees nothing more than darkness and fear and no way out to be saved, even when one loses one’s strength and cannot understand, see, or change:  if all power in heaven and on earth has been given to you, our Lord and God, we can still continue to smile.
Even when we hear the words of the wise who ridicule your holy, marvelous name, even when they turn you into a fairy tale for the foolish and they deny you any kind of historicity and reliability, and even when your trinitarian name is used to massacre and to destroy, to trick, and to steal: if all power in heaven and on earth has been given to you, our Lord and God, we have every reason to continue to smile.
If all power in heaven and on earth has been given to you, our Lord and God, we will continue to smile and will remain immersed in you, we will remian lovingly, completely and tenderly immersed in the trinity of your name, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Let breezes blow, let storms be unleashed, regardless of words and justifications, we will leave arguments and discussions, lies, and judgements to others.  We will remain immersed in your smile day and night, night and day; the smile of your unutterable name is enough for us. Whatever happens - and the prince of evil certainly has plenty of immagination - if all power in heaven and on earth has been given to you, our Lord and God, we have every reason to continue to smile because you are with us always until the end of the world.
You are with us side by side, behind and in front of us, cheek to cheek, heart to heart, eye to eye, mouth to mouth, hand in hand, second by second, always in any case forever and we will never lose our smile, the smile of God’s children.
