Twenty-third Week of Ordinary Time

Word for Today
The Gospel of Luke 6:27-38

Maternal Father

The cause of your sadness is never what you think.
The cause of your sadness is your corrupted, deceived mind.
The cause of your sadness is that that you are thinking and committing evil, and committing evil means non loving, even if you are unaware of it.
The cause of your sadness is that you are not loving.
If you think you are not doing evil simply because you are going along your way without stepping on anyone’s feet, you are wrong.
If you love those who love you, that is not the Love that God teaches.
If you do good only to those who do good to you, that is not the path traced by God.
If you give your things and your time only to persons from whom you hope to have something back, that is not the giving that God proposes. If love exists inside of you, it exists always and for everyone, otherwise it is not love.
Not just merits or lovability should elicit love. A love depending on merits or recompensation is a form of prostitution. God’s love is not moved by merit but by compassion and mercy and it is free and faithful always. Love that knows recompensation and that is moved because of recompensation is not love.
There are five holy ways, holy indications traced by Jesus to live on this earth according to God’s loving project. All of the Gospel is synthesized in those five holy ways. There is nothing to interpret or explain; it is even too clear.
This way of living is impossibile for us, unattainable, distant from our logic, but it is the way in which God gives life and loves us and desires that we live so that we can have full joy. Every time that we do not follow these indications we are forced to follow another way and perhaps it is not yet clear to us that the alternative to love is the way of fear, possession, anger, vengeance, death.
There are five sacred, holy ways to the love traced by Jesus.

Love your enemies
Be merciful.
Do not judge and you will not be judged.
Forgive and you will be forgiven
Give and you will receive.

And, finally, the vital, God-given rule that no one can get around is: the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.
