The Gospel of Luke 10:17-24

The power

The learned and the erudite men of the world, everywhere and always in human history, have always sought to obtain and maintain power through any possible means. Human power is a great, poisoned river whose tributaries have banks which are controlled by multinational corporations, governments which are employed by corporations, armies that are government employees. The great river of earthly power has its mouth in wars, poverty, hunger, thirst, ignorance and human subjugation. All these evils are caused by a power that guarantees an absurd, unjust wealth and prosperity of the few. The stronger the power craved by man is the more it is ready to strike and to effectively create slaves,  to block what it does not consider beneficial for its own purposes and to organize to destroy anything and everything that limits its capacity and puts its strength at risk. Man's power is the power to strike and hurt everything and everyone in order to possess. It is the power that Satan wanted to offer to Jesus when he tempted Him: Then the devil took him up to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their magnificence, and he said to him, "All these I shall give to you, if you will prostrate yourself and worship me (Matthew 4:8-9).
Jesus also offers us an extraordinary, unique power that no one else can give us or present. Jesus does not give us the power to strike to possess, to fight to win, to destroy in order to eliminate, but the incredible, absolutely peaceful and harmonious power of resisting evil’s harmful blows. This is the absolute novelty of Jesus Christ's spiritual proposal. Jesus does not give us the power to crush the head of the venomous snakes and of all that they symbolically represent in terms of perversion and deception in human history. Jesus gives us the strength and the power to live in the midst of snakes and their poison as we try to walk in the light and love of His name and in accordance with the procedures of the Gospel, without being poisoned by snake’s venom. The children of God do not receive from God the power to destroy and fight evil, but to walk on it without being damaged while doing good, sharing, and forgiving. Jesus does not give us the power to destroy the scorpions and all that they symbolically represent in human history, but He gives us the power to live mercy, and fidelity to Love in the midst of evil without being struck and damaged. The power offered us by Jesus aligns the mind and the orientation of thoughts and emotional reactions, DNA, enzymes, blood and breath to the bowels of mercy of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Paraclete. The power that the world gives aligns the mind, the orientation of thoughts, emotional reactions, DNA, enzymes, blood and breath to the bowels of Satan.
Jesus thanks the Heavenly Father because has decreed that the key to this knowledge and truth will not be given, now or ever, to the learned and the wise men of the earth, but will be revealed to the simple, the humble and the little ones. Exactly to the extent that the heart of humanity has chosen and decided to align itselves with the world's destructive power, and therefore with Satan, the prince of the world (John 12:31) - not because he is, but because that is what man has chosen - and not with the spiritual and loving power, proposed by Jesus, in the same destructive way, planets and stars, galaxies and comets are aligning themselves over the heads of six billion people.
