Weekday of Advent

Word for today
The Gospel of Matthew 1:1-17

At the center

How many things can happen during a single human generation? How many meetings and confrontations? How many wars, betrayals, jobs, empires, relations, coups? Is it possible to predict what can happen during an entire human generation? Is it possible to calculate where the millions of causes and effects can lead to? We cannot calculate, predict, or know what will  happen in a single day. Yet someone knows, sees everything, and is aware how everything is connected and linked in every moment everywhere.
Our hairs are counted, the number of breaths we take and heartbeats are counted. Nothing is ever by chance. God Jesus is at the center of everything. Jesus was born at the center of a story, at the center of our whole history. Jesus is the center of all generations, he was born man among men, after thousands of blood connections, but in a vital system where nothing is by chance, nothing is ever lost, everything is part of a line that draws the big picture. There is no bad, there is no good that, while respecting the freedom or the deception of human action, is not brought back, or rather, led by the hand to Jesus, who is the center.
There are fourteen generations from Abraham to David, there are fourteen generations from David to the deportation to Babylon, and there are fourteen generations from the deportation to Babylon to Christ. Fourteen is a multiple of seven, seven is the symbol of infinity, of divine perfection, which means that everything, absolutely everything is in God's hands. Whatever happens and is tied into the mysterious web of cause and effect; everything is always in God's hands.
Just as dough for bread  is kneaded, in the same way the Father, in the power and imagination of the Holy Spirit the Paraclete, can knead anything as He pleases and desires so that all returns to the center of unity. The center is Jesus.
