First Week in Ordinary Time

Word for today
The Gospel of Mark 1:14-20

To follow

A seed has to give up being a seed if it is to become a tree. A flower has to give up being a flower if it is to become fruit. A glacier has to give up being ice if it is to become a torrent. A stream has to give up being a stream if it is to become a river. A river has to give up being a river if it is to become a sea. The sun has give up being noon if it is to become sunset, and it must give up being dawn if it intends to become noon.
If you want to serve the kingdom of God, you must give up being served. If you want to serve God, you must give up even your idea and conviction as to how you think you should serve Him. To be a child of God, you must give up being the child of someone else. If you want to become a father and mother, you must give up being a child. If you want to serve the Gospel, you must give wanting to be understood. If you want to follow Jesus, you must give up your attachment to your beliefs, habits, and conventions. If you want to forgive, you must consciously and lovingly let go of those persons who have taken something away from you. If you want to be happy, you must let go of revenge and anger forever. To follow, you must let go. If you do not let go, you will remain in the emptiness in which you find yourself. If you let go, you will have the impression of not having anything, but that is precisely the prerequisite to being transported by the Holy Spirit everywhere.
