Fifth Week in Ordinary Time

Word for today
The Gospel of Mark 7:24-30

The Connoisseur

The woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit, is a foreigner, and a stranger, but she is certainly an exceptional connoisseur. Jesus tries to stay out of sight, but the connoisseur has a good nose, she tracks Him down at once and goes to Him immediately. She does not know His language, but she has a fine palate and knows exactly what Word she needs to nourish herself and she begs Him to utter that Word of Life because even a single sound is certain salvation. The woman has no connections, no knowledge, no religious traditions; she does not even belong to the people of God, but, like few others, she is a connoisseur and she takes a place with humility, tenacity, insight, invincible wit, and absolute strong-mindedness at the table of Jesus, the extraordinary Teacher.
God loves the connoisseur. He dotes on them. And He changes the rules of the game for them.
Amid humanity’s tables which along history's roadsides have been laden with fake truths, dangerous beliefs, deceptions, ignorance and ideologies – all poisonous and hypo-energetic foods for humans - the gourmet recognizes with her nose - her spiritual intelligence -  that the Table of the Gospel, the table of Jesus, the Teacher, is the place where humanity can nourish itself with food perfectly adapt to its spiritual and existential metabolism.
The connoisseur saves herself and her daughter, while the children belonging to the history of salvation, the children who have been invited for thousands of years to the table of life and light, go home hungry.
