First Week of Lent

Word for today
The Gospel of Matthew 5:43-48

Changed

Everything has changed. The Logos of God became flesh and came to dwell among us. The Logos of God, God's inner dialogue, revealed to us the heart of his Word and of his being. The Word of Jesus did not come to update the First Testament, the Gospel is not a mere integration of the old law, a necessary update. Jesus did not come to refresh the ancient text of the Jewish law with his proposal as if it were about to expire. Jesus' proclamation does not implicate refreshing the first text. It is neither a finishing touch nor an accessory. The Word of Jesus not only completes, concludes, fulfills, implements the ancient law, but changes everything. Jesus changes everything, changes absolutely everything. Between You have heard that it was said and But I say to you, everything, absolutely everything has changed: all perspectives, angles, points of view, points of light, evolutionary paradigms, objectives, knowledge, goals, and horizons have changed.
You have heard that it was said is an indication concerning the survival of the species primarily aiming to prevent human extinction. Jesus' But I say to you has as its objective that you may be children of your heavenly Father. Between You have heard that it was said and But I say to you there is no integration, there is no continuity if not in the gradual line of the process of salvation due to the hardness of human hearts and God's infinite, merciful patience. Talking about the integration between the old law's indication, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy and Jesus' inspiration, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you is beautiful and prosaic, but fanciful. In fact there is no link, connection, or continuity.
Jesus changes everything for everyone, completely. Jesus inspires  the kings of the palaces and the priests of the temple with something unknown to them
, Jesus inspires something that  does not exist even in anyone's wildest dreams. The words of Jesus inspire us with a kind of love which is completely different from what we believe love to be, no matter how certain and unquestionable our belief may be. He says, in fact: For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? Even those who are deeply evil, unjust, violent, ignorant, and empty can love those who love them, they can love their families, those persons they consider their loved ones. Jesus changes everything for everyone, completely. One day we will understand it. Surely we will understand that the width and depth of his inspirations have the breath and depth of the heart and love of God the Father, the God of heaven, the Lord of all things.
