The Dedication of the Lateran Basilica

Word for today
The Gospel of John 2:13-22

Why a whip made out of cords? To whip whom? Traders selling oxen and sheep? To make what kind of statement? That the temple is God’s house and not a market? To chase out whom?  Street vendors selling doves? To overturn what? The money-changers tables? A whip made out of cords, why? For whom? To defend the temple? To protect religion? No, none of all these. Jesus made a prophetic gesture, a premonitory one, anticipating the most tragic, shocking, destructive and sacrilegious event in human history. Jesus, brandishing a whip of cords, that day in Jerusalem, revealed what will happen, the event that will open under humanity’s feet hell’s abyss, He revealed where the event will occur and what  its consequences will be for humanity.
What will the most tragic, destructive and sacrilegious event in the human history be? In Daniel 9:26-27 it is described in these terms: After the sixty-two weeks an anointed shall be cut down when he does not possess the city; And the people of a leader who will come shall destroy the sanctuary– the modern day heart of Christianity–; Then the end shall come like a torrent; until the end there shall be war, the desolation that is decreed. For one week he shall make a firm compact with the many;  – here the biblical text refers to the fact that precisely from the hierarchic center of Christianity there will be a push for a total globalization, the new global order -, Half the week he shall abolish sacrifice and oblation; – soon celebrating the Lord’s supper, the Eucharist will be forbidden, and any sort of charity and sharing will become illegal–; On the temple wing shall be the horrible abomination – the temple, christianity’s beating heart, both physically and spiritually, will be ruled by the Anti-Christ, Satan’s son, who will use those places, Christianity’s symbols, for human sacrifices, mostly of children, and to slaughter rebels: this will be the time when a new and terrible persecution will start during which so many martyrs will be sacrificed that it will be impossible to count them-, until the ruin that is decreed is poured out upon the horror – all of that will last until Lord Jesus will come backto earth to establish, by heavenly decree, the ruin of Satan’s son and his servants. Jesus Himself, in Matthew 24:15, carefully explains that the most tragic, destructive and sacrilegious event in human history will happen When you see standing in the holy place – Christianity’s temple –the desolating abomination – Satan’s favorite son, the Anti-Christ, who will rise in Peter’s throne itselfspoken of through Daniel the prophet. From Peter’s throne, Satan’s son will be the soul of the new global order, and through powerful alliances with the political, religious and economical power, will push humanity to embrace, believing in it, supine subjection to one government, one economic system, one religion, one global ruling and moral structure. This is the desolating abomination which will start the most tragic and devastating time in human history. Jesus, in Matthew 24:21, describes it with these words: at that time there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will be. And if those days had not been shortened, no one would be saved; but for the sake of the elect they will be shortened.
Now it is clear against whom Jesus shook His whip: against Satan who was already planning his project, and against a religious system, a hierarchical system of priests, theologians, and biblical scholars, who in the name of money, ambition, power and prestige were already even then preparing the way to establishing Satan’s son on Peter’s throne in order to lead the world. Everything Satan does, he does it imitating, merely copying God’s deeds and plans, but using energies and with aims opposing God’s. This is the reason why, as soon as God the Father sent His Son Jesus to save and heal humanity, Satan did all he could to send his own son, the Anti-Christ, the horror, to lead Christianity and the world, to enslave and devastate humanity. Jesus does not raise His whip against the merchants selling doves, but to what they represent in the temple, in God’s house: they are paving the way for Satan’s entrance in the holy place, the heart of Christianity. Jesus does not overturn the tables of the money-changers, but what they represent in the temple, in God’s house: the temple’s doors open to Satan and his armies. Jesus wants to chase out of the temple the ones who, in the name of God, are opening the doors to Satan and his sons.  He wants to chase out the ones He chose and elected to be men’s fishermen, who should have protected mankind against the Evil One, healed all illness and disease, been the spiritual guides able to elevate man to the knowledge and wisdom of the gospel to create a new, intelligent, free, independent and spiritually evolved people, in love, and who have now become the best allies of Satan and his projects. Blessed be the whip made out of cords, it will still be able to open the eyes of the blind and the ears of the deaf, because it is still forcefully repeating to humanity: let the reader understand (Matthew 24:15).
