The Gospel of Matthew 7:21.24-27

Mouth and hands

Saying Lord, Lord with the mouth, while the hands aren’t working for justice, sharing, understanding and wisdom, is religion, not faith; it’s not intelligence but insanity, it’s a house built on sand, not on rock. Religions were born when someone one day claimed, completely arbitrary, to have the power to say Lord, Lord with more right and more effectiveness of anybody else, creating all sort of intolerant authority and intransigent moralism. This arbitrary power found its counterpart only in people’s ignorance, fed by the fear of severe punishment’s threat. In this way the ”Lord, Lord religions” have been used for hundreds and thousands of years as massive spiritual screens behind which entire armies and generations of cruel and bloody thieves were hidden so they couldn’t be found and disturbed. Saying Lord, Lord with the mouth, while the hands are trying to convert the other brothers and correct them using force, imposition, stakes, inquisition, torture, it’s insanity, it’s not intelligence, it’s not faith, it’s a house built on sand, not on rock.  Religions, continuously repeating Lord, Lord with the mouth, generated at the same time cultures incompatible with each other, laws opposing each other, morals dissimilar to any other, facilitating racial and ideological separation. Saying Lord, Lord with the mouth and closing hands and mind to wisdom, prophecy, news from the Spirit, not being brave enough to look through Galileo telescope, to see how wisdom expands and pushes us to grow in every direction to greater glory of God, it’s not faith, it‘s not intelligence, it’s insanity, it’s a house built on sand, not on rock. Saying Lord, Lord with the mouth while the hands do not move to protect the little ones and the voiceless ones on earth, while the earth itself is devastated in every corner to pander the wealth of few, assuring misery for all the others, it’s not faith, it’s not intelligence, it’s insanity, it’s a house built on sand, not on rock. Saying Lord, Lord with the mouth, while the hands are covered in our brothers’ blood and in the mud of the cruelties perpetrated in the name of economic interests, it’s not faith, it’s not intelligence, it’s insanity, it’s a house built on sand, not on rock. Faith, the true spirituality that Jesus offers is the one that he announced to the Samaritan in the fourth chapter of John’s Gospel, where the adoration of God is joined with the work of justice and peace, the harmonious sharing of the earth resources, in the total respect of the earth itself and all forms of life. This is the house built on rock, everything else will be blown away.
