Word for today
The Gospel of Luke 5:17-26

See beyond

A group of people, while walking towards a refuge on the mountains, lose their way because a landslide has completely removed the path. People get nervous and frightened, they start making gloomy predictions about the outcome of the trip. Only a few in the group remain calm, confident that they will be able to find the path and continue the trip, maybe with more effort, but safely. Why? Just because they are optimistic, while all the others are pessimistic? Simply because those who stay calm have seen, have seen beyond the landslide, the canyon and the tree tops, and they manage to see what all the others cannot, that is an escape, a solution, a chance.
Faith is not believing without seeing, but seeing where, due to conventions and mental habits, it seems there is nothing to see. Faith is not believing without seeing, faith is to see the light, reality, possibilities, opportunities, life where others can see nothing. Those who brought the paralyzed man to the house where Jesus was in, were people of faith. Why? Because they watch beyond. Faith awakens charity so that some men get to walk for the paralyzed's sake and bring him to Jesus, whereas others did not get into action at all. Faith knows that anything can happen in front of Jesus and therefore it tries at any cost to bring the paralyzed to him. Faith is able to see a door where everyone else sees only a roof.Faith sees the Lord where the theologians and priests of that time see a blasphemer. Faith sees God in the person of Jesus, whereas others see only an impostor to fight against. Faith sees a paralyzed man stand up by God's hand, because faith knows that it is possible, whereas others see only an enemy to fight and kill. Faith sees and feels that it is time to thank, to praise and magnify God, whereas others see only a moment for grumbling and complaining. Faith sees solutions where others see only problems, new paths where others see only fences, light where it seems to be only darkness, wide open streets and new possibilities where others see only locked doors. Faith comes in through the roof, and even if it is small and sick, after being at Jesus' feet, it jumps out of the door, praising and glorifying God, carrying under its arm the couch of its paralysis. Faith is seeing beyond because beyond faith there is love.
