Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

Word for today
The Gospel of Luke 2:16-21

It is she

It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who was gently awakened one night by the touch of the angel Gabriel's wing. Gabriel, the angel who is always before God, spoke heart to heart to her about the King of the universe and Lord Almighty that she was already carrying in her womb, agift of the Holy Spirit Paraclete. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who set off quickly to aid her cousin Elizabeth when she heard the news of that incredible maternity. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who gave birth to the child and lovingly cradled He who had created everything, she nursed the One who sees everything and takes care of everything and everyone; she soothed and cuddled Joshua, the Savior who saves and heals. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who witnessed the ecstatic amazement of the shepherds who, after they saw the vision of the angels, rushed to gather around the child lying in the manger. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, whose heart and ears grew accustomed to the incessant music of celestial choirs of angels all around the cave where the child was born. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who carried Jesus to the temple to be circumcised and heard the prophetic voice of the old Simeon and the affectionate embrace of the prophetess Anna, who worshipped God day and night in the temple.
It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who received the visit of the Magi, the wisest and most enlightened minds on earth at that time,  offered them some warm goat's milk and sweets brought to her by the shepherds, and heard the story that her Son was already in the hearts of faraway peoples. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who needed to escape in the heart of the night, guided and protected by her husband Joseph, because powerful leaders, servants  of the enemy, were trying to kill baby Jesus. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, whose tears mixed with those of all the women in Bethlehem and the neighboring villages who saw their children slaughtered by Herod's army. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who, after the festivities of the Passover celebrated in Jerusalem, had to return to that city because her Son was not with her in the caravan but  in the temple with the doctors and priests listening and questioning them. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who watched from afar as Jesus began his ministry and moving from town to town healed the sick, drove out demons, and announced to the people liberation from the chains of ignorance and slavery and the joyous power of the gospel. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, whose heart ached when she heard the accusations of the Pharisees, the poisonous whispering of the chief priests, and the hatred of the elders  for her dearest Son. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who accompanied her son on the way to Calvary and collected on that day tears and blood from that cross. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who at dawn was gently awakened by a hand touching her hair, the hand of her beloved Son, radiant and full of life. It is she, Mary the Blessed Mother, who was one of the first members of the new church together with a group of uncertain but good-hearted friends on the the day of the Paraclete. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who watched as everything took place and pondered everything in her heart, without judgment, without condemnation, without straining, without fear, without pressure, without ever thinking ill of God. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who teaches us that meditation is not a way to think or to build mental infrastructures, but to reflect on what happens with love, gratitude and total trust in God and to continue to serve God without ever thinking ill of Him or life, no matter what happens. It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who, always at the side of every man and woman on earth, gently invites all her children to meditate in every circumstance to learn how to live without thinking, without drawing conclusions, without fear, without fuss, without revenge, but reflecting on what happens in the light of  God's love and not our fears or expectations, to entrust everything with gratitude in His hands and His heart.
It is she, Mary, the Blessed Mother, who shows mankind the true path to meditation. For Mary reflecting in her heart means to see what happens not with our expectations and fears but with our faith and love for God.
