Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Word for today
The Gospel of Luke 7:11-17

Nain

Nain is the world. The young in the coffin is man. The widow is humanity. The gate of the city is the threshold beyond which there is no life, where there is the abyss of darkness, of death without appeal. Jesus approached the gate of the city, the last generational gate before the ultimate transition. Mother humanity, the widow of God - the Lord of love, husband and lover -, who wanted to kill and eliminate Him from her life, is without any protection, knowledge, defense, reference, or guide; she is weeping and desperate, debilitated by unimaginable suffering and loneliness. She is leading the man, her son, out of the city, toward the place of death and despair, where everything ends. Humanity, which  voluntarily became the widow of God, is accompanying through the gate of life, her son, the dead man in a coffin to the cemetery of existence. This is the scene Jesus found not only on that day in Nain but also at the very beginning when he was born. This is the scene that played before Him: a humanity that was desperate, exhausted, alone, helpless, slowly carrying on her shoulders her son, man, lifeless inside the coffin of slavery, fear, ignorance, injustice, to the gate leading to nothingness and self-destruction. When Jesus came to carry out His mission He  found this situation and was moved with compassion, boundless compassion. The first words he addressed to the widow humanity were not words of hope, vain hope, but an invitation to wipe away the tears from her eyes and heart: Do not weep. Indeed, hearts that weep do not feel properly, eyes that weep do not see properly. Jesus' first call to humanity is to stop weeping, because it is only in that way humanity can learn to see, and realize that, after an interminable time of slavery, sadness, pain, injustice and oppression, it is now the time of God's compassion; it is the the hour of liberation. Compassion and divine deliverance which turn into a caress, the caress of God-Jesus present and alive, who touches the coffin of death and fear, who raises man, the son from inner, spiritual death, to bring him back to life, so that he can embrace the joy and splendor of life. Jesus came to visit earth shortly before humanity, alone and helpless, weeping and desperate accompanied her only and last son, man, through the gate of life to the nothingness of death. Jesus, God the Son,  became incarnate in order to prevent woman-mother humanity from seeing her children obliterated by deceit and dismembered in an unprecedented massacre by political and religious power. Humanity will never become fully aware of how Jesus came to save humanity, of how his coming prevented humanity from a terrible end. Jesus visited humanity to give us the wisdom of his Word; He formed a group of men and women dedicated to the proclamation of the gospel, which is the essence of the wisdom of His procedures, to free mankind through the power the Spirit Paraclete from the bonds of the satanic slavery of inner, spiritual death, which generates psychic-intellectual and physical death. Humanity, subjugated by religious and political powers, reacted to the Lord's visit by organizing, as quickly as possible, His elimination by His death on the cross. Over the centuries, the few men and women who followed with a sincere heart Jesus' mandate and Word became, under Satan's influence, a political and religious power that is more devastating than the one from which Jesus had come to liberate humanity. Twenty centuries after Jesus' first coming, woman-mother Humanity is  now in a worse condition with respect to His first encounter with the woman-humanity; the people are prostrated by slavery, injustice, suffering and pain as never before in human history. That is why Jesus has decided to return now, at this time, at the end of this generation, to restore His kingdom, to guide his daughter humanity toward the gate of light, towards a new evolution. Jesus is coming to give spiritual life to man, the son of the woman-mother humanity, because humanity is tired of living as God's widow, suffocated by misery and tears, burdened as it is by the injustices of power and the arrogance of the rich. Humanity can no longer bear the sight of her children, all the people, who are so spiritually, mentally, physically exhausted, but it does not know how to get out of the coffin of death in which she herself entered out of stupidity, ignorance, laziness, fear, conceit, arrogance. Jesus looked with infinite compassion on this woman-mother humanity which did/does not know how to free her children from the coffin of death and which now does not even have the strength to do so. The Lord of all things has trasformed his compassion into a path connecting heaven to earth for His intermediate return. He is coming back, and the more this reality sounds like a fairy tale to the heart and minds of this generation, the more it is true and undeniable. He is coming back and his first words to woman-mother humanity, when He meets her, will be do not weep, but this time, He will not use just a gentle caress in a dark, sandy corner of the earth and history to free his people from the coffin of death.
