Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Word for today
The Gospel of Mark 5:21-43

Moving energy

A stone can remain submerged in a river for centuries without absorbing a single drop of water. People can be milling around God for millions of years through different forms of religion without absorbing or trasmitting a single drop of His power and love.
In one
moment a small single heart can absorb more energy, wisdom, and divine love from God than a entire nation of people during a history lasting millions of years. Only what unites allows divine energy to be transmitted. When there is division, there is not just division, there is no transmission of divine energy. Competition divides us into social cages: those who have more and those who have less, those who are the first and who are the last. By promoting stereotypes, vanity creates opinions and separates us  according to the fashion of the moment. Success gathers applause and separates us into hedonistic class affiliations. Political power determines dependence and subservience by partitioning people into parties and ideologies. The family determines the most powerful bonds and umbilical chords which can cause the deepest and most primordial divisions, at the origin of all other divisions. All that separates is terrible and lethal because it prevents love, God's energy, from circulating.  A group of families joins together in a tribe, but separates itself from other tribes, a village joins together with other villages to make a town and separates itself from other towns, just as nations, enclosed in their national borders, do. The country, the flag, the sports team, the party, the social class, people come together to be united with their own and in so doing separate themselves from all the others. A son/daughter loves his/her father and curses his/her neighbor, a mother takes care of her son/daughter with utmost care and concern but she is completely indifferent about the other young people in her neighborhood. To ensure its national security, a government can start a destructive war against another people. In concentration camps and prisons tormentors can torture men, women and children all day long without batting an eyelid and then in the evening when they go home they caress their children and chat with their wives.
On that day, among the thousands of people crowding around Jesus yet totally isolated from one other and separated from Jesus Himself, only one woman touched Him with love, united herself to Him with love, without fear, without any separation and then and only then was divine energy, which has the power to heal everything, was let free and transmitted.
