Twenty-Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Word for today
The Gospel of Luke 7:1-10

Great faith

Where does the centurion's great faith come from? First of all, it comes from his loving heart, a heart that, although bound in military armor, is a heart capable of experiencing true affection, friendship and gratitude, even towards a servant. The centurion's great faith also comes from his humbleness and intellectual honesty. His intellectual humbleness produces two effects on his capacity of recognizing reality. The centurion recognizes in Jesus, the Lord of all things, the supreme authority to which all life, all created things, including illness and death, obey instantly, without objection. By recognizing Jesus' divine light, the centurion is capable of recognizing his own being, his own life, his own choices, the spiritual way he must still achieve. He realizes that his life is not moving in the light of the person he is now imploring and how much forgiveness he must ask the Man he does not feel worthy to have in his home. The centurion's great faith is the fruit of a deep extraordinary wisdom, an inborn and fully spiritual knowledge that allows him to know, to be certain, without any doubt, that the Word of that young man works exactly in the same way as the Word of God. Or more precisely, He himself is the Word that has created the dominant law of energetic and spiritual hierarchies. The centurion has no doubt: The Word of Jesus is the Word that belongs to the supreme energetic hierarchy, and so it is the Word that instantly does what is says, it is the Word to which all obeys. The centurion, consciously or not, lives a state of superior knowledge and senses something that the people  around him cannot even imagine. The centurion talks, thinks, moves, relates to Jesus as if he knows perfectly well that the power of the energetic field, the resonance of the revitalizing frequencies of the sound of Jesus' words belong to the superior and supreme energetic hierarchy and are so powerful as to easily travel through time, space, distance, culture, conviction, prejudice, social or religious membership, to bring health, life, harmony everywhere and to everyone.
When the heart becomes intelligent and intelligence becomes loving as in the case of the centurion's heart and intelligence, it is possible for a man to live the power of a great faith, of a faith that is so great that surprises Jesus himself, causing Him to exclaim: "I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith".
