First Week in Ordinary Time

Word for today
The Gospel of Mark 1:14-20

Halièis anthròpon

Halièis anthropon, "fishers of men." Fishing for men is the task that Jesus asks of his disciples. Fishing for men in the sea of ignorance to lead them to the knowledge and wisdom of Gospel procedures to prevent them from drowning in stupidity. Fishing for men in the sea of human training, which tends inevitably to develop only ambition and possession, to lead them back to humility and understanding,  to prevent them from drowning  in misery and violence. Fishing for men in the sea of fear  to lead them to light of the true faith, to prevent them from downing  in slavery and war. Fishing for men in the sea of self-centeredness to lead them to the knowledge of the inexhaustible power of sharing, to prevent them from drowning in a sea of big powers and in the jaws of the corrupted and avid wolves.
Fishing for men according to Jesus’ mandate is not an easy task, but it is a wonderful one, because it allows you to fish for men in Satan's sea and to lead them back to God so they can bathe in the sea of His love and peace.
